PrepSeven Methodology

The PrepSeven methodology is built on a single conviction: in the IB, students who understand how they are assessed outperform students who simply study more. Everything below is designed to give students that understanding and turn it into marks. This is what separates PrepSeven from generic tutoring, and it is the same method whether a student is in the PYP, MYP or DP.

The four principles behind every lesson

1. IB-only specialisation. We teach the IB and nothing else. Every session is aligned to IB command terms, assessment objectives and markbands. Students are never taught to a generic syllabus that happens to overlap with the IB. They are taught to the exact framework their work is graded against.

2. Criterion-based teaching. We teach students how examiners think. We break down rubrics, map each mark to the criterion that earns it, and train students to structure answers strategically. When a student can read a markscheme the way an examiner does, the grade stops being a matter of luck.

3. Examiner insight. Our tutors include certified and practising IB examiners who have marked real scripts. That means students learn the difference between an answer that feels good and an answer that scores, straight from the people who award the marks.

4. Measured, personalised progress. No two students get the same plan. We diagnose, tailor, track and refine, so effort is always directed where it moves the grade most.

How it works, step by step

PrepSeven follows a clear, three-stage onboarding so students and families always know what happens next.

Step 1: Personalised IB demo session

Every student starts with a one-to-one demo led by a senior IB subject specialist. Our academic team matches the student to the right tutor based on subject, level (HL/SL), assessment component (IA/EE/TOK) and academic goals. This session lets the student experience our criterion-focused approach before committing to anything.

Step 2: Confirm your tutor and schedule

If the demo meets expectations, the student chooses time slots and begins. If a different teaching style would suit better, they can request another demo with a different IB expert. We prioritise academic fit, because the right match is what drives long-term improvement.

Step 3: Choose a class bundle

Students select an hour-based package matched to their goals:

• 10 hours: targeted concept clarity or short-term revision.
• 30 hours: IA/EE support or focused subject improvement.
• 60 hours: comprehensive syllabus coverage and exam strategy.
• 120 hours: long-term academic mentoring and full IB preparation.

Inside a PrepSeven programme

Once a student begins, the methodology runs on a continuous loop:

• Diagnose. A baseline assessment pinpoints where marks are being lost: content, technique or criteria.
• Teach to the markscheme. Sessions build concept clarity and, crucially, the answer structure that captures marks under each criterion.
• Practise under real conditions. Timed past-paper solving and markscheme breakdowns train accuracy, speed and exam temperament.
• Track and give feedback. Performance is monitored across sessions, with structured feedback after each milestone and clear updates for parents.
• Refine. The plan adapts as the student improves, so progress keeps compounding all the way to final exams.

Beyond the exam: strategy and mindset

The methodology extends past subject content into the areas that quietly decide IB outcomes:

• Predictive grade strategy. We analyse performance trends and subject weighting to build an improvement roadmap that meets university conditional offers and avoids last-minute pressure.
• University-focused mentorship. We align subject strategy and assessment timelines with each student’s intended university and career path.
• Performance psychology. We train time management, answer prioritisation, exam stamina and stress control through mock simulations, so students perform under pressure rather than freeze.
